A city council has extended its moratorium on setting up freestanding emergency rooms.

As reported on Saturday News Center 7 at 11amresidents are divided over the possibility of a free-standing emergency room.

As previously reported by News center 7Kettering Health wanted to add another ER to Greene County.
One man told it News Center 7’s Malik Patterson said this was a good idea.
“Yes, I would say so,” Nathan Meade said. “It could be helpful to the residents here, especially if Greene Memorial is the only place.”
Another man told Patterson he doesn’t think it’s necessary.
“Focus on the ones we have in town,” Paul Hoover said.
The Xenia city council voted on this decision on Thursday evening. They voted unanimously in favor of the discussion.
On Thursday evening, Xenia City Manager Brent Merriman discussed the city’s hesitation about standing emergency rooms.
They want a clearer definition of what a standing ER would be. And what would the zoning plan look like?
The current proposed location by Kettering Health raises concerns.
‘We advise the council to table a motion tonight to table this. To give us a little more time to study the implications of these changes. Before you would make them fall in love,” Merriman said.
He agrees that more resources are always helpful. But he was nervous about what it might do to Greene Memorial.
“As good as we need it, you know. But as you say, I still agree, if we have a great hospital, build it up,” Merriman said.
The six council members met Thursday and voted unanimously in favor of this discussion.
There is no set date for when this will continue.
