On Saturday evening, December 7, Dunstable police arrested a Pepperell man and charged him with an OUI after he clipped an officer with his truck.
The incident occurred around 4:45 p.m. when an officer was giving a traffic instruction during a Jinglefest event. Then the side mirror of a pickup hit the officer.
The officer described the vehicle to other Dunstable police as a gray Dodge pickup. Officers located the driver and vehicle and ordered them to stop.
The driver, a 30-year-old Pepperell man, smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from the truck. Officers asked the driver to leave the truck but refused, leading to a struggle that left one officer with a broken thumb. The driver was eventually arrested when additional officers arrived.
When placed in the cruiser, the driver began making threatening statements to the officers, and when apprehended at the police station, he was still acting aggressively. The driver was sent to hospital for further examination.
He is charged with the following:
-
Don’t stop for the police
-
Careless operation of a motor vehicle
-
Assault and battery with a dangerous weapon
-
Assault and battery on a police officer
-
Threatening to commit a crime
The driver will be summoned to Ayer District Court.
