(Bloomberg) — Perplexity AI, an artificial intelligence search company, has begun fundraising talks as it seeks to more than double its valuation to $8 billion or more, the Wall Street Journal reported Sunday.

Perplexity has told investors it hopes to raise about $500 million in the new funding round, the Journal said, citing people familiar with the matter. Conditions may change and financing may not be secured, the newspaper said.
SoftBank Group Corp.’s Vision Fund 2 invested in Perplexity earlier this year at a $3 billion valuation. The company has launched a series of revenue-sharing partnerships with major publishers, even as it faced accusations of plagiarism from some news media.
