A person was killed on the beach Thursday evening when an SUV drove onto the sand near the Santa Monica Pier.
According to Santa Monica Police, the incident happened around 11:30 p.m., when witnesses said a vehicle drove around a restroom building and drove directly onto the sand. At that moment the car hit someone standing on the beach.
It is unclear whether the person was walking or lying on the sand. Santa Monica Police and Fire Departments responded and attempted to rescue the person trapped and trapped under the SUV, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
