One person was taken to the hospital after a shooting occurred Sunday afternoon in the parking lot of a Springfield Township shopping complex, police said.

Around 4 p.m., police said they received a call reporting a shooting at 857 Baltimore Pike in Springfield Township, where The Shops At Springfield Park is located.

Springfield police have not yet identified the person who was shot or provided an update on his condition. They said a gunman opened fire and fled.

The Shops At Springfield Park is home to Hobby Lobby, Target, Chick-fil-A and LA Fitness, among others.

Wyatt Folkmore did not see the shooting but lives near Baltimore Pike. He said he spoke to witnesses who told him they heard gunshots.

“What they heard was just ‘Bang, boom, boom,’” Folkmore said. “Take off the minivan skirt and it was even ready in 20 seconds.”

Lamar Roberts also lives in the area and said, “It’s getting a little too close for comfort.”

Springfield police said they are actively investigating the shooting, but there is no threat to the public. It is also being investigated whether the shooting was targeted.
