Pets parade through the streets of Selinsgrove

Dec. 8—SELINSGROVE — Festively dressed pets took over the streets of Selinsgrove Borough Saturday afternoon for the Selinsgrove Chamber of Commerce’s eighth annual pet parade.

According to parade organizer and owner of First Class Male Barbershop Duane DeWire, this year’s event had the most participants, including several dogs and one goat.

While a number of new pets joined the pack, regulars continue to return.

Ida Stauffer of Port Trevorton said she has been competing with Asha, a four-year-old Havanese, for four years.

“We enjoy this every year,” Stauffer said.

This year, Asha and Stauffer dressed as snowmen for the event.

Roxanne Kerstetter and her poodle, 4-year-old Amos, took part in the parade for the first time last year and loved it so much they decided to return.

“I just love it,” Kerstetter said of dressing up with Amos.

According to DeWire, the costumes, which can be worn by both pets and owners, become a little more elaborate each year.

DeWire said attendance often depends on the weather. According to DeWire, Saturday’s dry and clear conditions were perfect.

Frank and Kathy DeLucca, of Strolling Accordions, played polka-style Christmas music to lead the parade.

Texas Roadhouse’s ‘Andy the Armadillo’ and Red Robin’s ‘Red’ even joined the lineup. Dewire noted that the parade would not be possible with Texas Roadhouse’s sponsorship.
