After an equal record for the hottest election day once measured at 76 degrees, Wednesday will be even warmer and we are chasing a new record in the Philadelphia region.
Our forecast is 80 degrees, more than 20 degrees above average. The record is 79, set in 1948.
If we hit 80 degrees, this would be the second to last 80 degree day ever, the last being November 15, 1993, when we hit 81. The most recent 80 degree day in November was on November 4, 2015.
Another weak front will move across the region Wednesday evening through Thursday, with some local showers south of the city through Thursday afternoon. There’s a slim chance it could deliver the 0.01 inches of rain needed to end our record dry spell, but it’s more likely it will sizzle like the past four fronts, keeping us dry .
Temperatures will drop into the low 60s under mostly sunny skies on Friday, with nice weather remaining into the weekend. But that could change on Sunday. A better organized system will target the area on Sunday and it’s looking like an unsettled day with our first real chance for measurable rain in over a month.
But as has been the case for the past two months, the forecast models start aggressively, and by the time the system arrives, it has already fizzled out. We will keep you informed.
We also look at the tropics Raphael is now a Category 1 hurricane, heading towards the Gulf of Mexico. We may see impacts along the Louisiana Gulf Coast on Sunday, but here in the Delaware Valley there will be little to no impacts.
