Philadelphia police investigate attack and shooting at car rally in South Philadelphia

Philadelphia police are asking for the public’s help in identifying multiple suspects caught on camera repeatedly assaulting someone during a illegal car rally end of September.

The assault took place on one of the several illegal car rallies which took place during the overnight hours of Saturday, September 21 to Sunday, September 22.

Philadelphia police will provide an update on their investigation at police headquarters at 2:30 p.m. You can watch it live in the player above or stream it on CBS News Philadelphia.

According to police, hundreds of people and vehicles flooded the 2400 block of Washington Avenue and the 1000 block of South 25th Street around 1:30 a.m. during a gathering at 25th Street and Washington Avenue in South Philadelphia.

Police say a person in the video below approached a rowdy group of people vandalizing a private property nearby and was repeatedly attacked. The video shows several people punching and hitting the person with traffic drums and cones.

Police say some of the suspects involved in the attack were caught on camera with firearms. According to police, one of the suspects also fired his gun into the air during the attack.

It is unclear what the victim’s current condition is.

In total, police said they have arrested nine people in connection with the series of illegal gatherings in several states, two of which are under consideration major arrests.
