Kyle Schwarber continued his hitting prowess on Wednesday by hitting another home run during the Philadelphia Phillies’ game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
It was his 44th career leadoff home run, which ranks him ninth all-time.
The 415-foot homer to right field at Rogers Centre gave the Phillies a 1-0 lead and was Schwarber’s 13th leadoff homer of the season. It tied the MLB record for most home runs in a season, set in 2003 by Alfonso Soriano of the New York Yankees.
Schwarber hit his 32nd home run of the season, his fourth in two games, after hitting three in the Phillies’ 10-9 win over Toronto on Tuesday.
Before those three dingers, Schwarber hadn’t hit an out since Aug. 14 and had just one home run in his previous 24 games. He also had a three-homer game on Aug. 7 against the Los Angeles Dodgers and has posted six multi-homer games for the NL East-leading Phillies this season.
Unless he continues to hit home runs, Schwarber won’t equal his career high in home runs (47, set in 2022), but he does have a chance to set a personal best in RBI. After Wednesday’s leadoff homer, he has 89 RBI on the season, 15 shy of his career high of 104 set in 2023.
