Just days before October, Phoenix set a new heat record on Saturday, with a high of 116 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

After a week of record temperatures, metro Phoenix was issued an excessive heat warning on Saturday, which will remain in effect until the evening of October 2, according to weather service meteorologists.

Saturday also marked the fourth day in a row that Phoenix broke record high temperatures.

Phoenix broke the record high of 108 degrees previously set in 1992 around 11:30 p.m., according to the weather service. Highs in metro Phoenix range between 111 degrees and 116 degrees.

Highs in metro Phoenix and much of western and southern Arizona are expected to be between 105 and 116 degrees over the next week, according to weather forecasts.

Starting Monday, temperatures will begin to drop slightly as a weak weather system from Southern California moves in, bringing Valley temperatures between 105 and 110 degrees, meteorologist Isaac Smith said.

“If these trends continue, the excessive heat warning may need to be extended,” Smith wrote in a forecast discussion.

Weather service data shows more daily records are likely to be set or broken through Tuesday. Between September 29 and October 1, record high temperatures for Phoenix did not exceed 107 degrees, according to record-high weather service data.

Phoenix is ​​expected to see a high of 109 degrees on Sunday, September 29, followed by 107 degrees on Monday, September 30, and 109 degrees again on Tuesday, October 1, according to weather service data.
