Plane crashes on Louisville highway, three taken to hospital

Several people were hospitalized Friday evening after a small plane crashed into a car on a freeway in Louisville.

The Piper PA 28 was approaching a runway at Bowman Field to land when it crashed on Breckenridge Lane and struck the vehicle at 6:17 p.m., according to a statement from Darrell Watson, senior vice president of the Louisville Regional Airport Authority.

The two people aboard the plane were taken to a local hospital, Watson said.

One person who was in the vehicle that was struck by the plane was also taken to a hospital, Louisville television station WDRB reported.

“The Louisville Regional Airport Authority, which owns and operates Bowman Field, is working with local authorities to support the response to this incident as needed,” Watson wrote.

He said St. Matthews police and firefighters were the first to respond to the scene.

A St. Matthews Police representative said the road had reopened late Friday evening. According to him, the injuries to those involved are not life-threatening.
