A plane crashed in the Midlands area of South Carolina on Sunday, according to the Saluda County Sheriff’s Office.
Both occupants of the two-passenger plane were taken by helicopter to a hospital, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. No further information on their conditions was available.
A spokesperson for the Saluda County coroner told the state their office has not been asked to respond to the crash site or hospital.
According to the release, the plane crashed in the area between the Persimmon Hill Golf Course and the Saluda County Airport.
Information about the cause of the crash was not available, but the sheriff’s office said it was being investigated by the FAA. There was no word on whether the National Transportation Safety Board was also investigating the crash.
Information about where and when the plane took off, as well as its intended destination, was not available.
In addition to the sheriff’s office, both EMS and Saluda County Fire Departments responded to the crash.
Minutes after the crash, firefighters were dispatched to another fire in a building on the other side of the county as high temperatures and high humidity made conditions “a powder keg,” according to the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office.
