APPLE VALLEY, Minn. — A burglary, just before Thursday afternoon, at a home in Apple Valley – glass everywhere, Stefanie Nipp was there to witness it all.
“It came through like a freight train,” Nipp said. “It was huge.”
The perpetrator was caught red-faced after breaking through both panes of Nipp’s kitchen window.
“I was immediately stunned. It took me a second to look to see what it was,” Nipp said. “I yelled at my neighbor across the street and was like, ‘Can you come help me, a turkey just came through my window.'”
The turkey was stuck there on her kitchen floor for about an hour.
“He just lay there, I’m sure he was sedated. He started bleeding a little bit from the beak,” Nipp said.
Apple Valley Police and the Department of Natural Resources arrived on scene and helped the animal into the backyard before it left.
The now boarded-up window created an artistic opportunity.
“We had our daughter do a painting,” Nipp said.

“We thought it would be funny to put a little turkey through the window,” says Stefanie Nipp’s 11-year-old daughter, Layla Nipp, of her new window art creation.
In nearly a decade of living here, Nipp says she’s never seen anything like it.
“When I called the non-emergency service, he wasn’t surprised. He said that was actually only the first call this year, but not the first call I’ve ever had. Just to not freak him out, it was I took it back a little,” said Nipp.
After all, spring is mating season for turkeys, and this Tom Turkey didn’t let anything, not even a window, get in the way of his search for love.
“All you can do is laugh about it, I don’t really mean a bucket list that you wanted to check off before the end of the year, but here we are,” Nipp said.
