Police are investigating five more burglaries around downtown Kansas City’s River Market

Police are investigating another series of five burglaries at businesses in the River Market and downtown Kansas City on Thursday.

Officers were called to the 400 block of Walnut Street in the River Market around 4 a.m. Thursday after a 911 call and found a business that had been burglarized, said Sgt. Phil DiMartino, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department.

They also found another nearby burglary in the 100 block of East 5th Street, and counted a total of five incidents in the area, he said, noting that detectives are trying to determine if the five burglaries are related.

DiMartino said detectives had tracked down surveillance footage and were working to develop clues from the video.

It was not immediately clear what was taken in those incidents.

Police say detectives will be investigating the area for footage and possible witnesses. Anyone with information about the burglaries can contact police at 816-234-5515 or by calling the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).

These burglaries followed another high-profile burglary near the market, at the Betty Rae’s Ice Cream location on Delaware Street, early Sunday, the second burglary at that store recently.

Police said Wednesday that a person had been arrested in Kansas City, Kansas, in connection with that incident, but did not immediately have an update on that case Thursday afternoon.
