Questions remain after a daytime shooting at a Malden apartment complex on Wednesday.
According to police, officers received a report of a shooting near Summer Street around 9:30 a.m. When officers arrived, they found a victim with a gunshot wound to the torso.
The victim was taken to an area hospital and is expected to be in good condition.
Captain Marc Gatcomb did not say how old the victim was or what led up to the shooting. He did say the individuals were known to police and that a gun was found at the scene. It is unclear whether the gun is legally registered.
“We are in the process of interviewing witnesses that were on scene,” said Captain Gatcomb. “They are cooperating. Also, there is no threat to public safety at this time. We believe we have all the individuals that were involved at the time.”
The apartment building was not evacuated or closed.
“It’s scary,” said one neighbor. “It’s getting worse.”
The cause of the shooting is being investigated by local police.
