Police investigate fatal shooting in Newton

A man was killed in a shooting in Newton on Monday afternoon, sources told Channel 9’s Dave Faherty.

It happened in downtown Newton near S. Brady Avenue and E. A Street around 4 p.m. The shooting occurred at a stop sign outside a bank, but the bank was not involved in the situation, the source said.

Newton police identified the victim as 51-year-old Kelvin Jerome England.

Bricson Cliffton Lineberger, 28, has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with this incident.

Lineberger is being held without bond at the Catawba County Detention Center.

According to police, his first appearance is Tuesday.

Authorities have not released any further details about what led to the shooting.
