Police investigating death of driver after SUV catches fire in Mansfield crash

According to a press release from the Mansfield Police Department, authorities are investigating the death of a motorist after he was found in a burning vehicle.

At approximately 4:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon, officers responded to the 2300 block of Newt Patterson Road for a single-vehicle accident.

Upon arrival, officers found a gray Chevy Trax engulfed in flames, the press release said.

Rendon and Mansfield fire departments responded to the scene and after the fire was extinguished, a driver was found inside the vehicle, the release said.

According to police, there were no other passengers in the SUV.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, the news release said. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the victim’s identity once next of kin have been notified.

According to authorities, the vehicle was located on the side of the road where it had collided with a drainage pipe.

Mansfield police are investigating the accident.
