POUGHKEEPSIE – City of Poughkeepsie police have charged a suspect with murder in the fatal stabbing of a 50-year-old man in Pershing Avenue Park earlier this month.
Police identified the suspect as Shrone Wright, 51.
He was taken into custody Wednesday with support from the state police’s Neighborhood Recovery Unit, Patrol Division and Community Stabilization Unit.
Wright is accused of stabbing a 50-year-old man in Pershing Avenue Park around 9:44 p.m. on Nov. 6.
City police responding to a call that evening that a man had been stabbed and bleeding found the victim and had him transported to a local hospital, where he died a short time later.
Wright was charged with second-degree murder, a felony. He has been charged and is being held in the Dutchess County Jail. Police would not say whether the prosecutor has set bail.

The name of Wright’s attorney was not immediately available.
The victim has not yet been identified and police have not said what the motive for the stabbing is.
However, police said investigations are continuing and urged anyone with relevant information about the case to come forward. Community members can submit anonymous tips by calling the police tip line at 845-451-7577.
