December 25 – While one lucky person purchased the only $256 million jackpot-winning Powerball ticket in Queens earlier this month, all New Yorkers will benefit from the December 7, 2024 Powerball drawing with $13.1 million in combined education and commission aid for retailers and hundreds of thousands of dollars in additional prizes.
Powerball sales leading up to the recent victory generated $11.2 million for New York’s public schools. In addition, sales of the game generated $1.9 million in commissions for lottery retailers, many of which are small businesses.
“It’s an exciting and happy holiday season in New York State, with a huge Powerball prize in Queens and millions of dollars to help our schools and small businesses,” said Gaming Commission Chairman Brian O’Dwyer. “Every time a New Yorker buys a lottery ticket, they are investing in the future of our state.”
The winning ticket was sold at Hua Lan Supermarket at 25-03 Parsons Boulevard in Vlissingen. Multiple New Yorkers won prizes of $50,000 or more during the Powerball roll-up between October 26, 2024 and December 7, 2024, including:
—One Powerplay third prize winner of $500,000;
