Preliminary 3.5 magnitude earthquake near Riverside County Desert Center

A preliminary magnitude 3.5 earthquake occurred near Desert Center this afternoon, according to the US Geological Survey.

The earthquake struck about 1:53 p.m. Sunday about 12 miles southeast of Desert Center and 36 miles west-northwest of Twentynine Palms, the USGS said.

There were no reports of injuries or damage.
