NBC News, citing multiple sources, said the announcement is expected in the coming days.

Trump had previously considered Rubio as his running mate before ultimately choosing Sen. J.D. Vance, R-Ohio.

On Monday, the president-elect announced plans to appoint former Rep. Lee Zeldin, R-N.Y., as the top administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency and Rep. Mike Waltz, R-Fla., as his national security adviser and Stephen Miller as deputy chief of staff for Policy.

The decision will not be final until Trump makes a formal announcement.
