Urge to follow the popular vote in Massachusetts
Seventeen states, including Massachusetts, have joined the treaty National plebiscite account. It would serve as a solution to the Electoral College, directing states to give their electoral votes to the candidate who receives the most votes nationally.
If it were in effect today, Massachusetts would cast its electoral votes for popular vote winner Trump. But the law will only be implemented if the states that agree to it have a combined 270 electoral votes. Right now, the motion is still 61 votes short of that number.
