Prince fans can book a stay at the iconic ‘Purple Rain’ house this October

MINNEAPOLIS— Prince fans will soon be able to book a stay at the “Purple Rain” house in Minneapolis. It’s in honor of the 40th anniversary from the iconic film.

It’s part of Airbnb’s Icons program and honors the Minneapolis music legend himself: Prince.

“There are very subtle nods everywhere, from the spray-painted eyes behind the bed to the original doll seen in the movie,” said AirBnb communications lead Ali Killam.

From the small details, like wallpaper that resembles the album cover of “Purple Rain”, to the big details, like the replica of the nursery downstairs – The Purple One is at the center of it all.

“Authenticity was something that was super important to us when we created the space and each room in the house contains different real-life memories. Elements are authentic items from Prince’s collection,” said Killam.

Prince bought the house in 2015 and has been closed to the public until now. The never-before-seen house also contains never-before-seen artifacts – if you can find them through the hidden door.

“There are Easter eggs planted all over the place, but there might be a really nice surprise right here in the basement,” Killam said.

Throughout the house, guests will find QR codes and notes from the house’s hosts, Wendy and Lisa, rock bandmates from The Revolution. Through the QR codes, the music legend’s close friends share Prince memories, insights and comments. There’s a chance the couple might even meet guests at the door.

“I think people today are looking for more than just a place to stay, they’re looking for a unique experience,” Killam said.

The home goes live on October 3 and will be available for a total of 25 one-night stays, with a maximum of four people per stay. Everyone pays $7, a nod to Prince’s favorite song.
