Prosecutors want to call Hunter Biden’s ex-wife and the late Beau Biden’s wife to testify in a gun case

Prosecutors in the gun case against Hunter Biden in Delaware are targeting both his ex-wife and the late Beau Biden‘s wife to testify as witnesses, according to an NBC News analysis of their trial brief.

Special counsel David Weiss’ team has filed a lawsuit brief with the court in which prosecutors say they plan to call three unnamed witnesses. However, the assignment contains enough detail to identify two.

“Witness 1” turns out to be Hunter Biden’s ex-wife, Kathleen Buhle, and “Witness 3” turns out to be Hallie Biden, Beau Biden’s wife with whom Hunter Biden had a romantic relationship after his brother died.

Representatives for Buhle and Hallie Biden did not immediately respond to NBC News’ requests for comment Wednesday evening. A lawyer for Hunter Biden did not immediately comment.

The letter describes “Witness 1” as “previously married to the defendant,” although they “divorced in April 2017” — the year Buhle and Hunter Biden divorced. “Witness 3” is described as having “a romantic relationship with the suspect in October 2018” and that he “stayed at her home in the fall of 2018” – which coincides with the time Hunter Biden was living with Hallie Biden.

NBC News has not yet identified Witness 2, who is described in the letter as having “previously been in a romantic relationship with the suspect between approximately December 2017 and October 2018.”

The 97-page letter provides a comprehensive overview of the cases prosecutors plan to bring at trial, including details of what they believe they need to prove, evidence and witnesses.

In the evidentiary portion of the letter, prosecutors highlighted excerpts from Hunter Biden’s book “Beautiful Things,” in which he details his history of substance addiction.

Prosecutors also point to his messages and photos of him allegedly using drugs.

The president’s son was indicted last September on federal charges related to allegedly possessing a firearm while on narcotics. He pleaded not guilty to the three firearms charges in October.

Hunter Biden’s trial is set to begin on June 3 and is expected to last about two weeks.
