WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Despite a slow start to Thursday night’s game, “Jeopardy!” champion Adriana Harmeyer climbed to the top again, taking her seven-day winnings to $155,700.

Before the first commercial break, Harmeyer, a clinical assistant professor and archivist for university history at Purdue’s Archives and Special Collections, briefly found himself in denial after two wrong answers.

But after that introductory break, Harmeyer once again found her footing, slowly rising again before the game turned into a runaway once again.

Harmeyer nearly swept the “double ‘r’ words” category in the double “Jeopardy!” round, but was surpassed by competitor Shira Gluck, a rabbi from New Jersey.

In the final round, Harmeyer had a sizable lead at $18,800, while fellow competitors Gluck and Benjamin Nelson, a theater producer from South Dakota, had $8,800 and $8,000, respectively.

In the “American History” category, the latest is “Jeopardy!” The question read: “The Butler Act of 1925, challenged in court that same year, prohibited this activity and was not repealed until 1967.” The answer: “What does evolution teach?”

Only Harmeyer could find the right answer and after a small bet of $800, she brought her matchday winnings to $19,600.

Harmeyer continues with Friday night’s episode, which airs at 7:30 p.m
