NEW YORK – The Queens Midtown Tunnel was closed in both directions Wednesday afternoon.
The MTA said the cause was a ruptured water main on the Queens side of the southbound tube.
All lanes of the tunnel are closed while authorities respond to the situation.
Drivers are urged to use alternative routes. All buses using the tunnel will be diverted.
Heavy traffic was also reported on Manhattan’s East Side due to the closure.
The situation started around 1:30 p.m.
