The Falcons will apparently move on from Kirk Cousins this season after benching him for rookie Michael Penix Jr. in December.
During his press conference on Monday, head coach Raheem Morris credited Cousins for the way he has handled things over the last few weeks of the season.
“Obviously when you talk about Kirk, we just talked about where we last ended it, and he did exactly what he told me he would do: he would be the best backup quarterback in the National Football League, and that’s where he is.” at,” Morris said. “So obviously these things will come up in the same discussions. Those things themselves are all masked.
“Kirk left today, gave me a hug and said he’ll talk to me soon, and we’ll make some of those decisions with him, obviously, because of his contract status and all the things he’s talking about. , right? So you never know, and I think that’s the part of the process that we’ll go through with him now.
As for how what the Falcons do with Cousins will impact the offseason plan, Morris turned to General Manager Terry Fontenot.
“These are all things that you really only concentrate on with Terry. That’s the Terry neighborhood,” Morris said. “We come together and have those discussions. We’ll be able to get those things aligned, how we need it to be. It’s the cost of doing business, how you approach your process. These are all things that I will certainly have an extensive conversation with Terry about.”
The Falcons went 7-7 with Cousins as the starter, with the quarterback completing 67 percent of his passes for 3,508 yards with a league-high 18 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. He was in the first season of a four-year contract he signed with Atlanta last March.
