The only afternoon showers and thunderstorms will continue until the middle of this week. The chance of rain and thunder is greatest on Thursday as a storm moves across the state.
High temperatures were warmer early in the week across New Mexico. Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms developed over the mountain ranges, but most of that rain evaporated before reaching the ground. This will be the case again on Tuesday afternoon as more localized showers and thunderstorms develop. Some of these storms can produce locally strong gusts of wind due to the evaporating rain. Temperatures will be even higher on Tuesday.
Better moisture will move in on Wednesday ahead of a storm system, increasing the chance of rain in parts of the state and making it more likely that the rain will actually reach the ground. A storm will move across New Mexico on Thursday. This week there is the greatest chance of rain and thunderstorms across the country. A few showers and storms will begin to develop Thursday morning, with showers and storms continuing throughout the day on Thursday. Locally heavy rainfall and some strong to severe storms will be possible, with large hail and gusty winds posing the greatest threats.
Drier air will return quickly on Friday, limiting rain chances to just a few spotty showers in some mountain ranges. Temperatures will also pick up again. High pressure will move across the state this weekend, bringing with it some of the warmest weather so far this year. Albuquerque could see its first 90° day of the year starting Sunday, while Roswell could reach 100°.
