Raleigh schools beef up security after teen murder suspect spotted at multiple high schools

Extra security is in place at all Raleigh high schools Friday as police search for a murder suspect who was spotted at three campuses earlier this week.

Raleigh police and the Wake County Sheriff’s Office are searching for Syncere Pigford, a juvenile with an outstanding warrant for murder. Pigford was seen Wednesday and Thursday at Broughton, Enloe and Athens Drive high schools in Raleigh, according to law enforcement and the Wake County school system.

Pigford was identified as a violator by administrators at all three schools and was removed from campus. But according to the school system, the schools were unaware that Pigford was a suspect in a murder investigation.

“The Raleigh Police Department and Wake County Sheriff’s Office are actively searching for Pigford,” according to an email the school system sent to families at Raleigh high schools Friday morning. “In response, we have increased security measures at all Raleigh high schools to ensure the safety of our students and staff.”

The suspect is Syncere Pigford, a juvenile with an outstanding warrant for murder.

Police said they are working with the sheriff’s office and the Wake County school board to increase security at all Raleigh high schools.

Police say Pigford’s whereabouts remain unknown despite efforts to locate the suspect. People are asked to call 911 immediately if they see Pigford.
