Rapper Foolio killed in shooting in Tampa

Jacksonville rapper Foolio, whose real name is Charles Jones, was shot Sunday morning in Tampa, his attorney confirmed.

Police were called to a downtown Tampa hotel a few hours before dawn after receiving reports of a shooting at the address. When they arrived on scene, they found two vehicles in the parking lot that had been shot up.

One person, now identified as Jones, was pronounced dead, according to Tampa police. Three additional victims are in stable condition and are being treated at a hospital.

Police say officers are still investigating the motive for the shooting and working to identify the people involved.

Jones celebrated his birthday on the night of his fatal shooting, according to images he posted on his Instagram story. The 26-year-old rapper, who had 1 million followers on the platform, shared a video promoting a pool party on Saturday evening. He told his followers to message him for the address.

Later that night, he posted that the police had “locked us out and kicked us out of their Airbnb.”

His attorney Lewis Fusco wrote in a statement that Jones then moved to a Holiday Inn, where he was allegedly ambushed in the parking lot.

“Best birthday everrrr 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞 appreciate everyone who stopped, we showed up until we couldn’t anymore,” Jones wrote in another Instagram story just hours before the shooting. “We’re going to the show now, you all come up.”

In April, when he announced the release of his latest album, “Resurrection,” Jones also reported that he had already survived “MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS ON MY LIFE.”

Jones, who had almost 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify at the time of the recordings, has been making music since 2015.
