Musician Nelly, known for hits including “Air Force Ones” and “Hot In Herre,” will not face charges after he was arrested at a St. Louis casino in August, prosecutors said Tuesday.
“We do not believe the facts in this case warrant the filing of charges,” Chris King, a spokesman for the St. Louis County Prosecutor’s Office, said in a statement.
Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Haynes II, was arrested Aug. 7 on an outstanding warrant for no proof of insurance, and state police alleged he had four “ecstasy pills” on him, according to a state police and attorney report from Nelly.
The police department in Maryland Heights, a St. Louis suburb, said at the time that it arrested him for failing to appear on an old traffic charge after state police transported him to the station.
Nelly’s attorney, Scott Rosenblum, said at the time that Nelly had not been notified of the order.
Rosenblum said Nelly was “targeted by an overzealous, excessive officer” who checked for arrest warrants after Nelly won money at the casino.
Nelly was born in Texas, but moved to St. Louis as a child and grew up there.
