Raskin calls argument in Greene House Oversight ‘a failure of leadership’

Ranking Member of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee Jamie Raskin (R-Md.) mentioned the recent verbal battle in his committee, sparked by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene‘s (R-Ga.) words “a failure of leadership.”

“So this was a failure of leadership,” Raskin said on CNN’s “Erin Burnett OutFrontFriday. “When the committee chairman refused to simply retire her words and have them removed, like [Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.)] When he refused, chaos ensued in the committee at that point.”

On Thursday night, lawmakers traded barbs at a House Oversight Committee hearing after Greene commented on the actions of fellow committee member Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas). The hearing sought to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt for failing to turn over the audio of President Biden’s interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur.

However, when Greene questioned whether Democrats on the panel employed the daughter of the judge who oversaw Trump’s hush money case in New York, Crockett intervened and pushed back against the relevance of Greene’s words.

“I don’t think you know what you’re here for,” Greene told Crockett. “I think your fake eyelashes are ruining what you’re reading.”

From there, chaos erupted as Democrats expressed outrage at Greene’s behavior, and Greene continued to push back.

“At some point the Republican conference will have to address the Marjorie Taylor Greene problem, but instead they continue to empower her,” Raskin told Burnett on Friday.

Greene later said in a post on the social platform Congress in general. ”

“Excuse me if I don’t talk as nicely as some people would like to hear.”
