Readers talk about Michael Savage, the Gaetz Report, and sneaky agents

One can be judged based on who they choose to follow

Manhattan: To voice actor Rob Mele: Thanks for referring me to Michael Savage. I’ve long wondered how and why anyone would be so stupid as to vote for Donald Trump, and you gave me solid proof that you’re all a bunch of babbling bigots. Now let’s get a few things straight: his real name is Michael Weiner, not Savage. Let’s stop trying to make people look cool who aren’t, okay? Second, this man is a botanist – another conman with no political experience. Third, he has a podcast because no one wants to hire him. He has been fired by all major media outlets he was associated with. He states in the book you reference that PTSD is for “weak soldiers” who need to stop “faking it and man up.” He says the same about autism. He is a convinced Islamophobe. He hates people with HIV and AIDS, calls them ‘pigs’ and then tries to sell them herbal remedies with his books!

So thanks for providing an actual reason why you all seemed to have lost your collective minds and elected this small-handed idiot to run our country. Half of our country is undeniably uneducated and racist and wants it to be a haven for white people only. Half of our country doesn’t believe in autism, mental illness, PTSD or science. You would all rather follow this racist blindly into the fire because he tickles your bigoted bone.

Republicans are the easiest to mislead and persuade. They form the base with the highest tax bracket and the lowest IQs. They are the ideal voters for a scammer. TS Fallani

Honesty in good weather

Brooklyn: Before the recent election, about 67% of Republican voters believed the federal election system was illegitimate. Now that Trump has won, 89% of those same voters believe the election was fair! Welcome to the reality that the conduct of U.S. presidential elections is always fraud-free, regardless of who the winner is. The only attempts at fraud were committed during the 2000 presidential race in Florida and during the Russian interference in 2016, both by Republican campaigns. And don’t get me started on voter suppression and extreme gerrymandering by that same party. Irwin Cantos

Poll sensitivity

Auburndale: Former President Trump is suing a newspaper because its poll showed he was losing the Iowa election. He ultimately won that state by 13 points. Isn’t it possible that some people saw the poll and said, “I wasn’t going to vote, but there’s no way I can let that woman, Kamala Harris, become my president”? Trump should thank them for publishing the survey results. Cathi Venis

Retaliation

Astoria: The cowardly lying Old Bone Spurs, who only defends his own agenda and whines when he doesn’t get his way, has ordered his MAGA sycophants, now the Republican Party, to go after Liz Cheney. They agreed. Her crime was trying to protect the Constitution that Trump continues to prove he has no use for. A modern version of the Salem witch trials has begun. Brace yourself, because this could be the start of a bumpy ride here in America! Karen N. Pearlman

Exclusive grace

Valley Stream, LI: So Trump is open to a pardon from Mayor Adams, even though they represent opposing political parties. It just goes to show that there really is honor among thieves. On the other hand, it has been reported that “Trump said he was outraged that some Americans have expressed sympathy for the man accused of shooting Brian Thompson on a Manhattan sidewalk.” Therefore, it is safe to assume that there will be no pardon for Luigi Mangione. After all, Trump is the only one who can shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and get away with it. Ralph D’Esposito

Rescue

Edison, NJ: Wow! What a big deal that Congress is going to release the report on Rapey McFivehead, Matt Gaetz, as we learned in your newspaper. He should be with his running buddy Joel Greenberg, who has now been in prison for two years after supplying Gaetz with the underage girls. This is yet another example of a two-tiered legal system that helps save the rich and powerful. Merrick Garland had four years to attack the slimy Gaetz, but released him. If (huge if) he is indicted now, Drumpf would quickly pardon him and he would be free to continue his reign of criminality just like his master Drumpf. Thomas Morrison

‘Sad’

Bronx: What a losing card. His choices are always the flip side of positive thoughts. Spend a few minutes and analyze: why would anyone want to live their life the way they do? Some people only get attention when they do something wrong. That’s his life. Stop being an enabler. Mark Benveniste

Equal say

Manhattan: Re “Dump the Electoral College” (editorial, December 19): Alexander Hamilton, in “Federalist #68,” urged the citizens of New York to support the proposed Electoral College in the new Constitution, writing: “The manner of the Appointment of the Chief Magistrate of the United States is virtually the only part of the system… that has received even the slightest sign of approval from its opponents. I dare go further, and have no hesitation in asserting that if the manner is not perfect, it is at least excellent. It unites in an eminent degree all the advantages the union of which is desirable.” The wisdom of the Founders should not be taken so lightly by the Daily News. Among other features, the Electoral College forces presidential candidates to pay attention to the concerns of voters in states of all sizes, not just those with the largest populations. Paul Weiss

Product placement

Holliswood: He’s baaack! Voter Shlomo Klein started his latest letter as a walk in the park, but of course he promoted some products you could buy at the end. Enough about the free product advertising in the Voice of the People. Let’s stop bashing each other’s political preferences. Gregory W. Chupa

Cancelled

Huntington Station, LI: I would like to thank you, commenter Shlomo Klein, for the kind and positive letters you submit on this page. They make me smile. You are a special person who understands life’s simple pleasures and chooses to share them with readers rather than insulting or demeaning them or their views. What a relief you offer your fellow New Yorkers, sir. I’m glad I met you in my favorite newspaper. All blessings to you and your family. Nancy Macri Kennedy

Joy

Little Egg Harbor, NJ: I watched the TV crossword puzzle on Tuesday and lo and behold, this puzzle is actually doable and fun! Then I looked and saw you brought back Jacqueline E. Mathews. Thanks, Daily News! Merry christmas! Jan Subelka

Whose ideas?

Brooklyn: In 2019, the Yankees added pitcher Gerrit Cole. At the time, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Cole was the final piece of the puzzle. Since then, they’ve added many more superstars, including Juan Soto, who left for the crosstown rival New York Mets this offseason. Now, with the addition of pitcher Max Fried – another stud with excellent numbers – manager Aaron Boone says we’ve added a championship piece. At some point, owner Hal Steinbrenner has to wonder if maybe it’s not the players, but the people he’s in charge of. Johannes DeAngelo

Relax

Massapequa, LI: Re “Get Those Cops ‘Hiding’ Back on the Streets: Adams” (December 18): Mayor Adams would be better suited to criticize the city council members and Governor Hochul for their no bail, soft on crime policies instead of to insult hardworking police officers. I am sure there are officers who need to be sent back to the streets, but to insinuate that the police are “hiding” is an insult and unwarranted. The soft-on-crime policies of the council members and the governor are the cause of most of the crime problem. Police make arrests and the same individuals are released to commit more crimes instead of being held in jail. Michael Greney
