Readers weigh in on national crises, Biden’s candidacy and protective poles

Have we forgotten Trump’s disasters so quickly?

Manhattan: Another day, another poll showing Donald Trump To defeat President Biden in the November election. Thursday’s Sienna poll contained even more disturbing details. It showed that a majority of Americans actually believe Trump would be more competent to handle a national emergency. I have to admit, this made me scream.

Seriously? The man who so mishandled the one crisis he faced during his administration that over a million Americans died? Who went on national television and told us to use disinfectant in our lungs, who told his supporters to take horse dewormer to treat a deadly viral lung infection? Who refused to send ventilators to blue states out of spite? This is the man we now think is better equipped to lead the country through a crisis? We must have collectively lost our minds.

This is not an exercise in wishful thinking. This is a binary choice. Trump is no stranger to the unknown. He has a history of failing to run. The fact that so many people seem to have lost memory of the reality we’ve had to not only endure but try to survive doesn’t change what Trump has done or who he is. He is a convicted felon, the only president in the history of this country to refuse the peaceful transfer of power — a thin-skinned, incompetent, perpetually wounded professional victim whose only talent is inspiring hatred and division.

I would vote for Biden’s dead body over the rapist who wants to make women second class citizens. The alternative is a nightmare we’ve already lived through and the scars are still open wounds! Geidy Perez-Storch

Family affair

Lady Lake, Fla.: So President Biden tells Donald Trump he has the morals of an alley cat. How would he judge a man who has an affair with his veteran brother’s widow while getting another woman pregnant? He said Hunter Biden has done nothing wrong. Even Harvey Weinstein wouldn’t stoop that low. John Martineck

No month for you

Brooklyn: To Voicer Bob Lovell, who asked when there will be an “Average White Guy Month”: Bravo! Best letter I’ve read in a long time. Sadly, it will never happen. Jennifer Badamo

Get your ass out

Brooklyn: Voice actor Marlene Danoff’s words tell me she is just another MAGA fake Christian who would love to see a T-rump administration control everyone whose life she disagrees with. Calling Democrat representatives criminals, implying NY is immoral, etc. shows her bias against the left and those who need support and protection the most, such as women, LGBTQ, people of color, etc. Ms. Danoff, other people’s lives are none of your business! Everyone deserves the same rights, whether you agree with them or not. Your “holier than thou” attitude is pathetic. “Progressive transgressions”? Really? I think you should move to Florida, Georgia, or one of the red states that want to go back to the 50’s or worse. I’m sure many of us would help you pack up. Susan Cassano

Puppet President

Massapequa, LI: After watching last week’s presidential debate, it’s 100% clear that Biden cannot speak a coherent sentence without notes, an autocue, and some help from Jill. The man has aged so much that he clearly can’t run this country anymore. The scary part is that we’re just now finding out that the person who’s really in charge is a schoolteacher who wrote her doctoral thesis in chalk. Tom Ascher

Latent leader

Manhattan: Let’s face it, Biden probably won’t drop out of the race. But if elected, can he serve four effective years? After his debate debacle, I doubt it. If elected, could he even survive into 2028? Maybe not. So every vote for Biden is a vote for Kamala Harris for president. It’s crucial that we get to know her better. Paul Backalenick

Boss ladies

Hope, RI: When push comes to shove, Kamala Harris for president, because Kamala not running for president, wouldn’t sit well. And Kamala is awesome. And Gretchen Whitmer for vice president, because those two ladies together would be rock stars! And two rock stars beat Trump. This “Dos Cinderellas” ticket would blow Trump off the front pages. And honestly, can’t we all use a break? Arthur Hayek

To the winner…

Staten Island: Trump emerged as the clear winner of Thursday night’s debate, offering a tangible and optimistic plan to get America back on track after four years of Biden’s failed presidency. Recent polling averages show that more than 62% of Americans believe we’re headed in the wrong direction, while more than half worry about Biden’s competence. His vague and often incoherent responses in the debate only reinforced those concerns. In stark contrast, Trump’s strong performance showed that he is the leader this country needs to navigate these challenging times. His plans to secure the border, cut taxes, and strengthen American manufacturing, among many other common-sense policies, appeal to a large majority of voters eager to return to normalcy. As the leader of an institution that represents young, right-leaning voters, I urge voters across the spectrum to unite behind an America First vision that will restore our nation and secure our future. Peter Giunta, chairman of the New York State Young Republicans

Over prepared

North Bergen, NJ: As someone with a long track record, I can tell you that while your memory capacity declines in your later years, expression, logic, and passion do not. In my humble opinion, what happened to Uncle Joe was that during the mock debates he had to memorize scripted responses to anticipated Trump remarks. Normally, an autocue would have come to the rescue, but Biden had no way out and his memory for arbitrary and orchestrated official speeches was lacking. He should have been able to speak out of thin air, spontaneously, and on his own initiative. Apparently, there are no loud laughs, non sequiturs, or other signs of cognitive decline evident at his rallies or other public events. Angelo Jimenez

I have seen this before

Brooklyn: The debate was a disaster. The Democrat was clearly struggling with mental health issues and frequently lost his way. Republicans insisted he was clearly unfit to serve. Fellow Democrats pressured him to withdraw from the race in favor of a more mentally alert candidate. He refused, to their dismay. I’m referring to the 2022 debate between Democrat John Fetterman and Republican Mehmet Oz, the two contenders for the open Senate seat in Pennsylvania. Fetterman, who was recovering from a stroke, ran a strong campaign and easily defeated Oz. He’s doing a great job as a senator. Can history repeat itself with Biden? We can only hope so. Dennis Middlebrooks

Can’t wear it

West Caldwell, NJ: To Voicer Kevin Dale: As someone with an ileostomy bag, it is impossible for Democrats, let alone anyone else, to “carry a colostomy bag” that belongs to someone else. And look at the line of conservatives who stood behind the Orange Clown the day he was sentenced. Talk about carrying someone else’s baggage. Carrie Pest

He is in

Scarsdale, NY: So Donald Trump’s buddy Stephen Bannon, better known as the Round Mound or Glop, has reported to federal prison. I guess Bannon, like his buddy the orange turd, learned that he wasn’t the smartest guy around and that no one is above the law. Hey Steve, enjoy your stay. Have fun! Harvey Wielstein

Nothing can stop them

Merrick, LI: I am deeply saddened and angry about the tragic incident in which a minivan plowed through a nail salon in a Long Island shopping mall, killing four people and injuring nine others. It is appalling that while we mandate helmets for children who ride bikes, we have yet to pass laws requiring safety posts on businesses to prevent such devastating accidents. How many more lives must be lost before we take action to ensure the safety of our communities? It is time for urgent change to prevent tragedies like this from happening again. Lori Izen
