Real Madrid teammate joins Kylian Mbappe in his rallying cry for elections

Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni has backed French teammates Marcus Thuram and Kylian Mbappe following their statements ahead of the French elections. With the far right under Marine Le Pen on the rise, Thuram and Mbappé had called on France to vote against her.

Thuram was the first to call on the French people to go to the polls to crush Le Pen’s campaign, and Mbappé was the next to do the same, imploring young people to vote, against the extremes. Now a topic for most players during their press duties at Euro 2024, Tchouameni also backed them.

“I share the opinion of Marcus (Thuram) and Kylian (Mbappé). I hate extremes and share a message of unity. I urge everyone to vote,” he told Marca.

Antoine Griezmann had publicly explained that politics was “a very personal matter” for him and that he preferred to keep his views to himself. After Thuram’s initial statements, the French Federation released a statement explaining that every individual was free to express their opinions.

“We haven’t talked about it anymore, it’s a topic that will come up again. I haven’t spoken to the 25 players and I don’t have the arrogance to think we have the same thoughts because I don’t know. If there is a press release, you will be the first to know.”

After the European elections, French President Emmanuel Macron called early elections after enormous support for the right wing. Mbappe has often been seen with Macron, but overall it has been divisive in France.
