The competition became fiercer The voice when week 3 of Blind Auditions started, with three four chair turns and another Coach Replay moment in which a third coach corrected an error.
On Monday’s episode, thirteen more hopefuls competed for one of fourteen coveted spots on Team Reba, Team Gwen, Team Snoop or Team Michael. While not every act that crossed the line Vote stage was successful in securing a red chair, the auditions featured one of the most eclectic mixes of singers and music genres yet this season, from classic jazz and soul to power pop and indie folk.
While Reba McEntire, Gwen Stefani, Snoop Dogg and Michael Bublé work hard to complete their teams, here are the standout singers from the third episode of The voice Season 26.
Gwen Stefani uses her Coach Replay power
The season’s youngest competitor, Jaylen Dunham, covered Beyoncé’s soul R&B song “Listen” for his Blind Audition. But nerves got the best of them as the performance went on and neither coach turned around. Dunham’s nervousness was picked up by Stefani, who made the observation after the audition. “As the song went on, you became more and more afraid that we wouldn’t publish it, and I could hear it.”
Stefani had no hesitation in not pushing her button, especially because of the raw talent he showed at 14 and the potential she believed was bubbling beneath the surface. “You have that regretful feeling; that’s what it’s for,” Stefani said of the Coach Replay power, which she used on Dunham.
Underdog story of the season
There are times when The voice is not just about vocal talent or performance, but also about the intangibles: Jeremy Beloate is one of those cases. The aspiring singer endured the loss of his father and two brothers – all to addiction – leaving him and his family believing they were stuck in an endless cycle of bad news.
The voice seemed to change that perception. “Every few years it feels like something terrible is going to happen,” Beloate said in his intro. “I feel like I am the change.” He sang a cover of Giveon’s “Heartbreak Anniversary,” and his emotional rendition struck a chord with all four coaches.
After learning of his tragic family history, McEntire was visibly shaken and Bublé was emotional in his plea for Beloate to join his team: “With someone like you, you could help me just as much as I could even help you.” Ultimately, Beloate chose Bublé as his coach.
Who spins us chair
Indie folk duo MisterMoon, consisting of best friends Leah and Savs (who met on a double date), amazed the Vote stage with their cover of Kacey Musgraves’ “Deeper Well.” The pair’s impressive harmonies, unique energy and calming presence caught the attention of McEntire and Snoop, who both pushed their buttons.
The choice seemed obvious, as their musical style was more in line with McEntire’s background. But the duo made a surprising choice: they went off the beaten path and chose the rapper as their coach. After being chosen to lead them on their Vote During his trip, Snoop said the biggest reason he turned his chair was because “they sounded like they belonged together.”
Impressive 4-chair turn
It’s rare to see multiple four-chair turns in a given episode, so the fact that there were three chairs on Monday speaks to the level of talent coming through this season. The voice the singer saved the biggest wow factor for the ending, closing the two-hour episode with Frankie Torres, who showed off her powerful vocals and unmistakable stage presence. She had all four coaches drooling at the idea of having her on their respective teams.
Torres’ strong rocker tone during her cover of Heart’s “Magic Man” amazed Stefani, who said the performance “got better and better” as it went on. But the No Doubt singer had tough competition, with Bublé, Snoop and McEntire all making their best cases. In the end, it didn’t matter because Torres chose Stefani, one of her childhood idols, as her coach.
Quote of the evening
“I can’t wait to steal it!” McEntire exclaimed after Beloate chose to be on Bublé’s team.
The Vote twist, which only comes into play later in the season, was clearly not on Bublé’s mind when he suddenly expressed concern about the possibility of losing Beloate along the way: “I didn’t even think about that! How do you prevent this from happening in the first place?”
