Red Sox, reliever Aroldis Chapman agree to $10.75M deal: Report originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston
The Boston Red Sox have made their first serious foray into MLB free agency.
The Red Sox have agreed to a one-year, $10.75 million contract with left-handed reliever Aroldis Chapman, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports. Completion of the deal is pending a physical, per Passan.
Boston Brass insisted it would take action this offseason after missing the postseason for the third consecutive year, and it appears the team’s first move will be addressing the bullpen.
Chapman, 36, posted a 3.79 ERA over 61.2 innings last season with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Red Sox will be his fifth team in four years.
