Regional gas prices rose for second straight week, still lower than national average

Regional gas prices rose for the second straight week, hitting an average of $3.29 per gallon of regular fuel on Monday, up from last week’s price of $3.26 per gallon, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

The average fuel price in the Lower Atlantic region has fallen about 4 cents since last month. According to the EIA, gas prices in the region over the past year have been as low as $2.88 on Dec. 18, 2023, and as high as $3.66 on Aug. 7, 2023.

The average gas price in the Lower Atlantic region was $3.20 per gallon a year ago, down 3%.

Last week, the average price of gas in the United States was $3.48, putting prices in the Lower Atlantic region about 5.4% lower than the national average. The national price of gas is above last week’s average of $3.44 per gallon.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration calculated prices in the Lower Atlantic states based on Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia.
