Gray skies and the chance of showers will continue again on Tuesday as the remnants of what was once Hurricane Helene continue to impact the Philadelphia area. That low pressure will move along our south and bring rain showers, especially south of Philadelphia.
A trough and cold front will push the remnants toward the coast on Wednesday, and our skies will become sunny by Thursday. The later part of the week will be beautiful, with highs in the mid 70s. One or two spots may even reach 80 degrees before the week is over.
A secondary front will try to slip through Friday night into Saturday with a chance of a few showers. Then the weekend will be slightly cooler but clear and pleasant with seasonal highs in the low to mid 70s.
As for the tropics, we now have our eye on Tropical Storm Kirk, which is expected to become a major hurricane in the Atlantic Ocean this week.
For now, it looks like it will remain over open water. We will also continue to monitor the developing region over the Caribbean, the Bay of Campeche and the southern Gulf of Mexico.
Conditions are favorable for the development of another tropical system later this week. This is the same region Helene just came from. It’s too early to tell where a system will track, but the entire Gulf Coast will be on alert again.
On Monday evening, the National Hurricane Center gave that storm a 10% chance of developing over the next 48 hours, but a 40% chance of developing over the next seven days.
As always, the NEXT Weather team will stay ahead of the storm for you and your family and warn you of potential impacts.
