Report: Aiyuk, 49ers not close in contract negotiations originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
A contract extension for Brandon Aiyuk does not appear to be on the horizon for the 49ers. At least not yet.
San Francisco is in negotiations with the star wide receiver on a lucrative contract extension that is expected to land him at or near the top of the market. However, nothing seems to be imminent.
Aiyuk and the 49ers haven’t made much progress and a deal isn’t close, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported Sunday on SportsCenter. (h/t bleach report)
“This one is tricky because he was involved in some trade talks surrounding the draft. He wants a new contract; he has one year left on his contract. I’m told the 49ers are definitely open to a deal, but talks are still ongoing.” not advanced enough close,” Fowler said “So is he going to show up for their practices? Hard to say at this point. The market is quite ready for him. Amon-Ra St. Brown in Detroit recently did that deal, about $28 million per year. So that’s something for Aiyuk and the 49ers to work on, but I’m told they’re not quite there yet.”
Organized team activities (OTAs) begin this week in Santa Clara, and as Fowler notes, it’s unclear whether Aiyuk will be present for the voluntary workouts.
Aiyuk was the subject of many trade talks leading up to the 2024 NFL Draft, and when he was ultimately unmoved, 49ers general manager John Lynch and coach Kyle Shanahan made it clear that they plan to move on from Aiyuk and fellow star wideout receiver Deebo Samuel. on the roster as negotiations with Aiyuk continue.
And if history is any indication, it’s that San Francisco and Aiyuk could continue negotiating a contract extension well into the summer and possibly into training camp.
