Report: CP3 contract deadline extended as Dubs explore trades originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
The Warriors have bought a little more time regarding their Chris Paul decision.
Golden State plans to extend Friday’s deadline on Paul’s contract for the 2024-25 NBA season, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Friday morning, citing sources.
The original deadline to determine whether they would pick up Paul’s $30 million team option for next season was Friday, June 28.
ESPN sources: Golden State and Chris Paul plan to push back the date to guarantee the $30 million on his 2024-25 contract until the start of free agency on Sunday. The deadline was originally today. This gives the Warriors time to continue exploring trades.

Anthony Slater of The Athletic added that the Warriors and Paul have pushed back the deadline by just two days, to Sunday, June 30.
Notably, the Warriors and Chris Paul only pushed back his guarantee deadline to Sunday, not July. GSW now has a small window this weekend to consider potential trade paths, but Paul should have a clearer picture of his future before free agency.

The extra 48 hours give Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy and company time to discuss potential trade deals, including one involving Paul, who has been rumored all offseason.
During Dunleavy’s pre-draft press conference on Monday, the second-year GM briefly addressed the Paul situation.
“We know what it is. We planned for it,” Dunleavy told reporters. “I think it’s harder to match the salary to the quality of the player and take that into account, which makes it difficult.”
In his first season with the team in 2023-24, Paul, 39, was a key part of the Warriors bench, averaging 9.2 points and 6.8 assists per game in 58 appearances.
If the Warriors do indeed want to part ways with the future Hall of Fame point guard, they have a little more time to get everything in order.
