Report: Giants making Yastrzemski, Wade available in offseason trades originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
The Giants may be ready to say goodbye to two fan favorites this season.
As San Francisco looks to restructure its roster again this winter, this time under new president of baseball operations Buster Posey, it may have to make some tough decisions regarding players already under contract.
And that includes outfielder Mike Yastrzemski and first baseman/outfielder LaMonte Wade Jr., who the Giants are making available in trades, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported Tuesday in his offseason preview column.
“LaMonte Wade Jr., first baseman: As new president of baseball operations, Buster Posey reinterprets the Giants’ roster, Wade — whose .376 on-base percentage ranks 11th among 144 players with at least 900 plate appearances in the past two year – is available,” Passan wrote. “As is outfielder Mike Yastrzemski, a free agent after the 2025 season.”
In 140 games last season, Yastrzemski hit .231/.302/.437 with 18 home runs and 57 RBI in 474 at-bats while playing primarily in right field.
Wade, limited to just 117 games last season due to hamstring injuries, hit .260/.380/.381 with eight home runs and 34 RBI in 401 at-bats.
Yastrzemski has been with the team since 2019 and is the longest-tenured Giant, while Wade – who became a fan favorite for his heroics during the record-breaking 107-win season in 2021 – is one of the longer-tenured players is on the selection. .
If either or both are traded away, the Giants could have less reliable left-handed bats on the roster in 2025.
