Romeo Doubs has started all four games this season and has played the most snaps of any Packers wide receiver, but that apparently isn’t enough to satisfy him with his role in the offense.
Doubs has missed the last two practices for what the team called personal reasons and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game. According to SI.com’s Bill Huber, that’s because is upset about his chances in the passing game.
Doubs has been targeted 20 times this season, which is slightly less per game than last season, but that’s easily explained by the fact that starting quarterback Jordan Love was injured and the Packers had to change their offense to accommodate the new arrival quarterback Malik Willis, who hadn’t been with the team long enough to know the full playbook. In the two games Love played, Doubs had seven goals in week one and eight goals in week four, which is an average of more goals per game than he averaged versus Love last season.
And if Doubs wanted the ball more, he probably would get it on Sunday against the Rams, as fellow starting wide receiver Christian Watson is questionable with an ankle injury. It’s possible that after Watson left last week’s game against the Vikings with the injury, Doubs didn’t like how he was being used when Love started throwing more to receiver Dontayvion Wicks, but skipping practice isn’t a productive way to to deal with it.
Either way, it looks like the Packers have a problem and Doubs will be home while his short-handed team tries to beat the Rams without him.
