Is a new transfer market on the horizon for the Warriors?

Golden State is in “serious talks” to acquire sharpshooter Buddy Hield in a sign-and-trade deal, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported Tuesday night. Citing league sources, he noted that the Philadelphia 76ers and Warriors are in “deep discussions.”

Charania’s report comes after Warriors icon Klay Thompson left for the Dallas Mavericks in a sign-and-trade deal on Monday, and just hours after Golden State acquired Kyle Anderson on Tuesday after also signing De’Anthony Melton.

It’s been a quiet, yet somewhat productive, period for Warriors manager Mike Dunleavy, but with the addition of Hield, Golden State gains an efficient 3-point shooter who can fill Golden State’s sixth-man role.

Following Hield’s trade to the Sixers during the 2023-24 NBA season, the sharpshooter has remained effective, making 38.6 percent of his 6.8 3-point attempts per game between the Indiana Pacers and Philadelphia. Hield has played in 84 games during the regular season, making him a reliable option who can make 3-pointers at a career clip of 40 percent.

While the Warriors reportedly have their eyes on Utah Jazz star Lauri Markkanen after missing out on Paul George, Hield could be a nice addition to such a deal.
