WASHINGTON (AP) — Democratic Rep. Bill Foster won reelection Tuesday to a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Illinois.
Foster, a physicist and businessman, defeated Republican Jerry Evans. Foster was first elected to Congress in 2008 in a special election to replace former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Denny Hastert, a Republican who held the seat for 20 years.
He lost a re-election bid two years later, but won in a newly Democratic-leaning district in 2012 and has since been re-elected.
The district includes Chicago’s westernmost and northwestern suburbs and surrounding communities.
Foster won with 55% of the vote, compared to 45% for Evans.
