Rescuers search for missing diver in Lake Michigan off southeastern Wisconsin coast

PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. (CBS) — Rescue crews searched for a missing diver Tuesday afternoon in Lake Michigan, off the coast of southeastern Wisconsin.

The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department, Pleasant Prairie police and fire departments and the U.S. Coast Guard were among the agencies dispatched to find the missing diver.

According to the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office, the Coast Guard received a call from a boat on Lake Michigan around 11:30 a.m. reporting that a diver had not surfaced and needed assistance.

The sheriff’s office said the diver was exploring an old shipwreck off the coast of Pleasant Prairie. According to CBS 58 in Milwaukee, the diver was last seen in an area off 106th Street and 1st Avenue.

According to the sheriff’s office, the diver was about six miles from shore in water more than a hundred feet deep.

No further details were immediately available.
