The price difference between electric cars and comparable models with combustion engines in Germany is narrowing, according to a new car market survey published on Wednesday.

The price difference between the twenty top models on the German market fell by approximately € 1,100 in November compared to October, according to a study by the private Center for Automotive Research (Car).

On average, new car buyers still have to pay an additional €5,583 for a fully electric battery vehicle compared to a combustion engine vehicle. The so-called transaction prices were taken into account, these are the list prices minus openly advertised discounts.

According to research leader Ferdinand Dudenhöffer, EU regulations will force manufacturers to sell proportionately more electric vehicles from next year. Otherwise they risk high fines. Delaying the start of regulations, as requested by the industry, would slow electric vehicle sales again, the automotive expert warns.

For the coming months, the center expects a slight increase in the share of electric vehicles on the German market. In October this was 15.3%. However, the abrupt end of the state environmental bonus for the purchase of electric cars at the beginning of the year continues to have an effect.
