HULL – During the hottest week of the year, clean, clear water was hard to come by in Hull and Hingham.

“I brushed my teeth with bottled water this morning, which I haven’t done in a long time. That was interesting!” said a woman.

Excessive use during the heat wave affected the water flow from the treatment plant. The change in hydraulics stirred up sediment at the bottom of the pipes, causing brown water to flow into bathtubs, sinks and washing machines across the region.

“The water company worked as quickly as possible to clean it up. The Fire Department, DPW, all department agencies are working together to find a solution. Someone has to bear the burden, we have to fix it. ” said Hull Fire Chief Chris Russo.

Fire brigade hands out boxes of water

With help from MEMA, Hull Fire secured 900 cases of water to distribute to neighbors, who appreciated the effort because the inconvenience is affecting everyone.

“I have faith in them. They are the experts. They will figure it out. They will provide us with the water we need now. Hopefully it won’t be long,” a neighbor added.

Water system crews continue to strategically flush hydrants to remove most of the discolored water from the water lines.

Hull Fire Brigade will once again be handing out crates of water from 9am on Saturday morning.
