CHASKA, Minnesota — Minnesota is a key state where Republicans believe they can win in November.
They believe that turning the state around begins with fair elections.
On Thursday, former President Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara and Republican National Convention Chairman Michael Whatley were in town to stress the importance of protecting the ballot.
“We believe that if all the legal votes are counted and only legal votes are counted, Donald Trump will win,” Lara Trump said.
Top Republican leaders like Donald Trump have wrongly claimed There was widespread fraud during the 2020 election campaign.
According to the Minnesota Secretary of State, 72 people have been charged and 22 convicted between 2020 and 2022 in connection with the nearly 3.3 million votes cast in 2020.
RNC leaders say they have established a robust election integrity program in 18 key states to give voters confidence in the system.
The party plans to train and Deploy 100,000 election observers to ensure that all votes are counted.
However, WCCO’s cameras were not allowed to see what the training looked like on Thursday.
Whatley told reporters he would explain what the training entails, but he didn’t want cameras in the room with volunteers. He did say volunteers would be trained on the rules and how to report problems they see.
WCCO’s Ubah Ali asked Whatley how the party plans to ensure voters are not intimidated by observers and whether the training goes beyond that.
“A key part of effective observation is having respect for the process, the employees and the constituents,” Whatley said.
There are specific rules that stipulate that candidates for elections may not approach voters.
But Whatley says his plan will help him sleep better at night, win or lose.
“If we have a fair, accurate, secure and transparent election cycle, we will absolutely feel good about the results,” Whatley said.
