PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The 2024 Philly 10K is this weekend and the city of Philadelphia released information Thursday about road closures and parking restrictions ahead of the race.

The Philly 10K race is in its 11th year and starts at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 25. Runners will run along the 800 block of South Street, a course through South Philadelphia.

Administrators said the 10K race will go ahead regardless of weather conditions. Should there be any extreme weather conditions that affect the race, runners will be notified as soon as possible.

There is also a new event this year called The Kids Dash that starts at 10 a.m. Sunday morning at 3rd and Bainbridge Street. The Kids Dash is a short, non-competitive race for children ages 2 to 4, the press release said.

The city said to expect traffic delays, use caution during the race weekend and allow extra driving time. The city also urges drivers to use alternate routes to avoid areas along the course.

Parking restrictions

  • There will be “Temporary No Parking” zones on the streets listed above from 1 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday that drivers must follow, and cars parked in these areas during those hours will be moved, officials said. You can call the area’s police precinct to find out where your car has been moved.

Officials said there will be police, traffic control and emergency medical services present at the race and in the surrounding area.

Never leave bags or other objects, such as a backpack, package, container, etc. unattended.

“In the event of an emergency or to report a suspicious person, activity or item, immediately notify an officer or call 911,” the press release said. “Do not attempt to open, move, cover or touch a suspicious item.”

Officials said strollers, bicycles and other similar items are not allowed for safety reasons. Non-service dogs are also not allowed.
